Ohio is one of 34 states that have received eggs tainted by listeria. Listeria is a type of bacteria that can cause potentially fatal infections; young children, elderly people and people with weak immune systems are especially vulnerable to the effects of listeria. Pregnant women who believe they have suffered food poisoning should immediately contact their physician, as the bacterial infection can harm unborn babies and result in miscarriage.

The Minnesota food company that produced the eggs, Michael Foods, has recalled approximately 1 million eggs after the listeria outbreak was discovered. Company officials believe the eggs were tainted in a packaging room where building repairs were being made. The recalled eggs were sold under the following brand names: Columbia Valley Farms, GFS, Glenview Farms, Papetti's, Silverbrook and Wholesome Farms.

Symptoms of listeria food poisoning include:

  • High fever
  • Severe headaches
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Stiffness
  • Pregnancy problems such as miscarriage and stillbirth

If you or members of your family have suffered serious harm from the listeria outbreak, contact an experienced Ohio food poisoning lawyer to discuss your rights to recovering damages.
